White Sangria Recipe

For @verythat and @Raulza08

Makes a gallon so you need a big pitcher. To the pitcher add:

1 bottle white wine (I use a Riesling but anything you would drink alone you can use)
1 can of frozen pineapple juice concentrate (like the WIC kind) plus the three cans of water.
At least a cup of triple sec or grand marnier, more if you want it stronger
1 cup of orange juice, I use one of those single serving bottles

Slice 1 apple, 1 orange, 1 peach and add it. Then add 1 can of pineapple chunks with or without the juice.

Stir it up and let it sit in the fridge at least an hour. The longer you leave it the better it tastes.

When you are ready to serve thats when you add 2-3 cans of ginger ale so its fizzy.  Or you could leave out the ginger ale all together if you want.

Chicken fried rice

This recipe is for @verythat

Make one cup of white rice using low sodium chicken broth instead of water and some diced onions.

Cut up about 2 skinless chicken breasts season with season salt and garlic powder. Completely cook the chicken and set aside.

When the rice is done add 1 cup of frozen peas and carrots and stir it together.

I put the rice aside and in that same pan (it needs to be fairly large) add 2 tbls of oil and heat it up.

Add one egg to the oil and scramble. Then add the rice and stir together with some soy sauce then add the chicken and stir.

 Eat.

My Oscar Picks

These are my picks for the Oscar winners.  Let's see how many I get right.

Best Picture - Slumdog Millionaire
I'll be happy if either Slumdog or Milk win this, but I think Slumdog will take it. It's the little movie that could
Best Actor - Mickey Rourke
It's either Rourke or Penn but Rourke seems to be winning every other award so it would be a surprise if he didn't win the Oscar.
Best Actress - Kate Winslet
Winslet should have been nominated twice here.  Since she wasn't I say they give her the award. Plus she was fantastic in The Reader. She may be the next Meryl Streep.
Best Supporting Actor - Heath Ledger
    The only sure thing.
Best Supporting Actress - Marisa Tomei
Don't know if she deserves it for this performance but I think she is due for a win.
Best Directing - Gus Van Sant
I just think he deserves it.  Was a very well made film.
Best Original Screenplay - Milk
The writer was born in San Antonio so I have to support my people.  And I think he deserves it.
Best Adapted Screenplay - Doubt
Doubt needs to win something tonight and I think this is the best bet.
Best Cinematography - Dark Knight
Every shot was gorgeous in this film.
Best Editing - Slumdog Millionaire
It had the most obvious editing.  And I mean that in a good way.
Best Art Direction - The Duchess
Period pieces usually win this award.
Best Costume Design - The Duchess
    See above
Best Makeup - Benjamin Button
I thought the makeup was distracting at times but it was more subtle than the other two nominees.
Best Original Score - Benjamin Button
It has that sweeping score which Hollywood loves.  And it's a very "Hollywood" movie.
Best Original Music - Wall-E
The two Slumdog nominations will cancel each other out.  And people know who Peter Gabriel is.
Best Sound - Dark Knight
Action movies usually win the sound awards.  Since Wanted sucked I'm     going with Dark Knight.
Best Sound Editing - Iron Man
Same reasoning as above. Plus it was a really good movie so it deserves something.
Best Visual Effects - Benjamin Button
I think Iron Man deserves it, but Button made advancements in CGI makeup.
Best Animated Film - Wall-E
Pixar made it. It will win.

I know nothing about the other categories so i will stop here.

Chicken Tostadas Recipe

Tostadas

This is my crock pot recipe for chicken tostadas; the easiest thing I know how to make.  It may not get me on Top Chef but I had to start somewhere.

Chicken Tostadas

2 boneless skinless chicken breasts

1 can reduced sodium chicken broth

1 can Rotel

1 quarter onion diced

1 tomato bouillon cube

1 can refried beans

Queso fresco or your favorite shredded cheese

Tostadas

Lettuce, shredded with some lime juice squeezed on top

Tomato, diced

Place the first set of ingredients in your crock pot and set it for 3 hours on high or 6 hours on low.  When the chicken is fully cook shred it inside the crock and let it sit on warm for 30 minutes to really absorb the flavors.

Now build your tostada.  Tostada/Beans/Cheese/Chicken/Lettuce/Tomato

This makes about 6 well topped tostadas.
